In the utility/mudroom we will also have some cabinets and counters. We will probably get some from a salvage source and paint them. I am not that particular and can think of much better things to spend money on. We will also put the extra freezer in there. I like to keep a freezer full of meat and vegetables from the garden during the winter. We also have some berries that we picked in there. I do can stuff but prefer freezing if possible. Freezing when done right gives you a healthier product. It retains the nutritional value better. We can jams and syrups though. I have canned deer meat before but it must be pressure cooked for a long time. Meat is a good thing to can, it needs to be cooked anyway and it is done during the winter. Canning during the summer when the vegetables are ready is a hot hot job. It helps if you have an outside place or porch to do it on.

There will be hookups for the washer and dryer. And a pulley clothes line you can open the window to.

And an extra washer specifically for dirty farm stuff. Things like horse blankets and coveralls I do not want washed with our nice clothes.

The mudroom will also have a very deep utility sink. With a sprayer. And a drying rack above.

We will also have in this room right near the outside entrance, a coat rack with several hooks, and a bench. In the bench will be a storage area for mud boots!

There will also be a place for hats and gloves. With several people in this house during the winter or spring months it is a challenge to keep the mud outside.

We had so much snow last week that now everything is mud. Mud everywhere. Everyone who works outside around here had rubber boots. That helps. We tore down a neighbors barn a couple months ago, and have a huge pile of wood siding from it that we intend to use for an addition. We were going to use it for new (old) hardwood flooring but then decided we would rather have a mudroom. Many old houses have mudrooms. In newer houses they sometimes have what they call a mudroom but it is not the real thing. The real thing keeps the mud from getting in the house. It is a room between the outside entrance, often a room off of a covered porch. Guess what goes in it. Mud boots!
